The Popular Bush

Yes, there is one.

The Hill:
First Lady Laura Bush, always a popular draw for Republicans, was in Mississippi on Thursday to stump for Sen. Roger Wicker (R), and on Monday she will do the same for Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell at a rally in Kentucky.

That the first lady is hitting the road while the president stays in Washington speaks volumes to this election season's dilemma: Republican candidates have to run away from the administration and its policies while still looking for help in races that were considered runaways in once-reliably red states.

KY Senate: Schumer

After watching this ad you'd be forgiven for thinking McConnell (R-KY) was running against Schumer (D-NY). The ad is so garish and crammed that it's hard to take it seriously.

Kentucky Senate: Not True

It's never a good sign when someone featured in your ad, comes out against you in your opponent's ad.

The race still favors McConnell but it sure has gotten a lot tighter in the last few weeks.

Kentucky Senate: McCon Job

Bruce Lunsford, the Democratic nominee for the senate seat in Kentucky, has released a clever ad that uses footage from the Republican convention against incumbent Sen. Mitch McConnell.

(H/T: Marathon Blog)

The senate race in Kentucky is at best a second or third tier race. The RCP average of the polls shows McConnell with a 13 point lead over Lunsford.

McConnell is the Senate Minority Leader and carries the advantages of incumbency. He also has a substantial war chest. Kentucky is a reliably Republican state in the presidential race.

The Democrats would love to avenge Daschle's loss to Thune but Lunsford has a long way to go in making the race competitive.
