A brief respite from the US elections - preliminary results from Rwanda's parliamentary elections indicate that women will hold 44 of the 80 seats in the parliament. Rwanda's constitution reserves 30% of the seats for women but the current election results mean that women will hold at least 55% of the seats in the parliament. Rwanda becomes the first country where women will outnumber men in the parliament. By comparison, women hold 16.8% of the seats in the US Congress.
