The Knowledge Paradox

In light of McCain's recent gaffes on the economy, Washington Post reports, "Were McCain known as a student of the economy, this instance of a badly delivered statement would matter little. Because he is known as someone who is not, it matters plenty."

So, McCain's foreign policy gaffes like confusing Shiite Iran with (Sunni) Al Qaeda, talking about the nonexistent Iraq-Pakistan border, referring to Czechoslovakia as a modern day country, or confusing the leaders of Iran, don't matter. But his mistakes centered around an obscure agency like SIPC are routinely called up. What a funny world we live in!

Update: McCain confuses the Spanish Prime Minister Zapatero with the Latin American leaders like Chavez and Castro.
