Yesterday, I had commented on Obama's most recent ad. Turns out that the ad was in response to this ad from John McCain.
Now McCain's out with another ad. This one hammers Obama for his ties with Jim Johnson.Recent polls have shown that a significant percentage of the voters are concerned about Obama's perceived inexperience. Obama's chief asset in these polls is that voters find him more convincing as an agent of change. Obama also leads when it comes to economic issues. So, McCain's challenge is to hammer home the lack of experience theme, dilute Obama’s association with the word change, and bring down Obama's favorables on the economy. I think the McCain ads are really effective in merging these three big themes creatively. Don’t take my word for it. Have a look at the two ads in this post, and look at this one.
The Obama ads on the other hand seem to be monotonous and clogged with way too many examples and tangents. Polls have shown that the perceived similarities between McCain and Bush are a big concern for voters, but if you keep going for the same tactic -- showing pictures of Bush and McCain together with some god awful narrative to accompany it-- it becomes old news. The Obama ads need to keep hammering McCain on the Bush angle but they need to use fresh and creative ways to get the message across.
